Dear WhatSayYou members,
One of our members suggested an excellent idea that we, as a group, send a letter to Judge Peter Deddeh thanking him for his decision to grant Cynthia Sommer a new trial. Judges often get letters of complaint, but in this case, we feel that a letter of gratitude is in order. If this letter expresses your sentiments and you would like your name added to the letter, please send me a PM with your name and it will be added to the hard copy. Your name will not be posted on this forum or any public place where it can be seen by others. It will only be used for the express purpose of adding it to the hard copy of the letter mailed to Judge Deddeh. The letter will be mailed on Friday, May 9th, to ensure that you all have ample time to respond.
Thanks in advance for your response,
Hotwater

Dear Judge Deddeh,
I am writing on behalf of several concerned citizens to thank you for doing the right thing in the Cynthia Sommer case. We here at WhatSayYou.net are proud to see a judicial officer that correctly and courageously uses his judicial discretion to advance the concept of "interest of justice" and the right to a fair trial. We firmly believe that had it not been for you granting Cynthia Sommer's request for a new trial in November of 2007, another innocent accused would have been imprisoned for a crime that never occurred. We are so grateful that you did not allow that to happen.
The criminal justice system is a complex institution that ordinary citizens do their best to avoid being "on the wrong side of." I cannot imagine what it is like for someone like Cynthia Sommer who was wrongfully accused and subsequently convicted for a crime that never occurred. Your decision to grant a new trial paved the way for the developments on April 17, 2008, that resulted in all charges against Cynthia being dropped and also renewed hope for many that injustices can be righted.
Thank you once again for your courage and for taking the time to read this letter.
Respectfully,
WhatSayYou.net
