It takes a lot of reading to educate ourselves on what often goes on in law enforcement in their efforts to gain convictions.
While most law enforcement officials are honest, ethical and do their best to good work to arrest and prosecute violent and dangerous offenders, there are those who are less than honest and ethical. Those corrupt L.E. officials, and sadly there are plenty of those too, are more interested in simply gaining convictions than making absolutely sure they have a solid case against the accused, or if the accused is actually violent or "a danger to the community."
Lately, there has been a push to incarcerate individuals who have never been violent, nor are they a "danger to the community." Too many have been caught in that trap, mostly because they lacked the knowledge to fight a false or even a malicious prosecution. The site "Truth In Justice" has done an outstanding job in researching thousands of cases where innocent persons were wrongfully convicted of serious crimes, or non-violent individuals given draconian prison sentences by DA's driven more by political interests than in the interests of justice.
Their "Recommended Books" page can help those of us who want to learn more about the "criminal justice" system, and how law enforcement operates.

When it comes to protecting ourselves, our family members, loved ones and friends from false and/or mistaken prosecutions, there is NO such thing as "too much education." Too often, it is what we DON'T know that leads to more wrongful convictions.
