This news story details the facts of an actual FALSE accusation, where a woman deliberately lied about a crime of "child sexual abuse" which actually never occurred.

Edmond woman charged with falsely reporting sexual abuse of child
An Edmond woman was charged this week in Oklahoma County District Court with falsely reporting a crime.
A warrant for the arrest of Teresa R. Haas, 39, has been issued.
She is accused of falsely reporting to Edmond police July 22 the sexual abuse of a child, according to court records.
Haas’s report caused an 8-year-old girl to be taken into protective custody, according to an affidavit. Haas later admitted that she lied about the abuse, the affidavit states.

This is exactly the kind of false accusation that I believe SHOULD result in criminal prosecution and prison time! It was not a mistake where a genuine victim believed a parent, close relative or friend committed the crime of sexual abuse. This was a LIE, and I believe the woman should be charged, with plain-vanilla PERJURY, for starters.
But for some reason, many in law enforcement refuse to address this kind of false accusation, where one person tells a vicious LIE for an ulterior motive. Why is that, I have to wonder. Why won't child advocates and prosecutors pursue this kind of false reporting of "crimes" that never actually happened, when this results in an innocent person's whole life being destroyed?
I realize that L.E. doesn't want to make a mistake and lead real child victims to think they won't be believed when an actual crime has happened to them. It is certainly an understandable concern, and a highly commendable one.
That being said, there has to be some kind of reliable criteria established by law enforcement officials that can help L.E. investigators tell the difference between a genuine sex abuse crime and a FALSE REPORTING of a crime that never took place.
If nothing is done, these false reports are going to continue, maybe even get worse, and will destroy more innocent lives in the process. From what I understand, many have already been destroyed, and innocent people have been wrongfully convicted and unjustly imprisoned for crimes they never committed and which in fact never occurred.
What kind of criteria does law enforcement and child protection agencies need to establish that would signal a possible false accusation? Any suggestions or ideas would definitely be welcome, and I think they're badly needed.
